Casting and Splinting Fractures and Breaks

Difference Physiotherapy Narellan can provide you with casting and splinting for fractures and breaks.

Everybody has or knows of a person who has had a broken bone. The gold standard treatment for most fractures is immobilisation in a cast for a period of four to twelve weeks depending on the severity and location of the fracture.

Wearing a cast for weeks can be a very long and frustrating process if the cast is not comfortable, well padded and moulded to your arm or leg appropriately. For optimal fracture healing a good cast should be able to hold the bone in a strong and stable position. The cast should provide you with firm support whilst also being comfortable and lightweight.

Having an experienced physiotherapist fit your cast is one way of guaranteeing that your cast is serving its purpose. After cast application your physio will ensure its correct by assessing blood supply and feeling to the arm or leg. They will also give you clear instructions of what to do and not to do with your new cast.

When the time comes to free your arm or leg from the cast it is important that the movement in your limb is restored to normal. Once the physiotherapist has removed your cast they can continue with you on your rehabilitation journey. Whether your goal is returning to sport or daily activities, a physiotherapist can help you retrain your movement and strength to get back to the things you want to do.

Here at Difference Physiotherapy Narellan and Camen our physiotherapy team have experience in managing fractures. From casting to rehabilitation we have the skills to assist you in returning back to life’s daily activities.
